Dental Implants

Dental ImplantsIf you have lost a tooth or have one or more teeth that must be extracted, dental implants are a restoration option. Implants involve placing a titanium post in your jaw and allowing the bone to grow around the post, securing it thoroughly. Once the area is completely healed, an artificial tooth replacement that has been specially crafted to look natural and fit perfectly will be permanently mounted. Dental implants are often the best option for missing teeth, or are placed to secure other larger appliances such as a bridge or a full set of dentures.

The advantage of dental implants is that tooth restorations are secure and are prevented from moving or slipping, allowing you to confidently speak and eat. Dr. Barkhordar is a respected implant specialist, and he uses the most advanced techniques and processes when placing implants. When you want highest quality dental work and friendly, caring staff, reach out to Gardena Dental Care to find out more.

Types of Dental Implants

The American Dental Association recommends only two types of implants. These two types are officially termed “Subperiosteal Implants” and “Endosteal Implants.”

Subperiosteal Dental Implants

A subperiosteal implant is placed through a process in which a metal frame is put under the gum tissue and attached to the bone, where it grows into the jawbone during the healing period. Posts are then attached to this frame, and extend through the gums so that the new artificial tooth can be placed and secured. When a patient’s bone area in the jaw is insufficient to support posts set directly into the bone, this procedure is an alternative.

Endosteal Dental Implants

This type of implant involves placing a titanium post directly into the jawbone, and requires several surgical procedures. The first is when the post is inserted into the bone in the jaw, the second is connecting the post to the implant, and the third is to attach the new crown or other appliance to the implant.

In order for an implant to be secure, it will require several months for the bone to grow and heal around the post, fusing it in place. Once this has been accomplished, which takes several months, the artificial replacement tooth will be affixed. Dr. Barkhordar, our implant dentist, always carefully monitors the progress of each patient, as he can then ensure that the implant procedure is safe and moving forward as it should.

What are the Pros and Cons of Dental Implants?

If you are ready to completely replace missing teeth, dental implants are one of the most effective methods for total permanent restoration. Our office staff and Dr. Barkhordar are committed to finding the most appropriate solution that will help you, as an individual, to get the best possible results. Dental implants have some very significant “pros,” including the following:

  1. No more limiting what you eat.
  2. Chewing is easy, even foods you previously avoided.
  3. No slippage.
  4. Implants last a lifetime.
  5. Improved self-confidence.
  6. Totally natural appearance.
  7. No more worries about missing teeth.

Some patients are better served by having a traditional bridge or dentures. Every person is different, and all of the options can be discussed with you when we meet. Let us find the right solution that will perfectly meet your needs.

Caring for Dental Implants

You will have to care for your dental implants, just as you would natural teeth. Brush twice daily, and floss once. You will need to have a regular cleaning performed on the bridge or dentures anchored on implants. With good oral hygiene and regular appointments at our office — every six months — your dental implants should last a lifetime.

More Self Confidence with Fully Functioning Teeth

Once your implants are in place, you will experience a huge change in your life. No more worries about your teeth, and your beautiful smile is now completely restored. You can now enjoy all the foods you love without concerns, and your confidence will soar. Talk to us at the Care Center in Gardena, as we have a highly respected implant dentist right here, ready to help.
