Have you dreamed of having perfect teeth and an amazing smile? If your teeth are permanently discolored, damaged, or an unsightly shape, porcelain veneers can give you a picture-perfect appearance.
Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain shells that are applied to the front surface of your natural tooth. They are manufactured out of several ceramic layers and look completely natural. These veneers, once placed, can change the color, shape, size, or length of your teeth. If you do not like how your teeth appear, it can leave you feeling less confident. With porcelain veneers of the type we use at Gardena Dental Care, you will find yourself smiling more often, proud to reveal your perfect set of teeth.
What Dental Problems Can Be Resolved with Veneers?
Veneers can resolve some of the most troublesome cosmetic dental issues, including:
- Spaces between teeth
- Oddly-shaped or misshapen teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Broken teeth
- Deeply stained teeth
- Teeth with fillings that you want to hide from view
Two Types of Veneers: Porcelain and Composite
Porcelain veneers are translucent, and look exactly like natural, healthy teeth. Porcelain is very strong, and veneers last for many years, when cared for properly. Another less expensive option are composite resin veneers. These are faster to create and apply. Porcelain veneers are applied over two office visits, and the results are truly impressive. Composite resin veneers are not as strong and long-lasting.
How the Porcelain Veneer Procedure Works
If you are considering porcelain veneers, the first step is an appointment in which the doctor will numb your mouth, and then remove a very thin layer of enamel from the teeth to which the veneers will be applied. After this step is completed, a mold is created so that your custom veneers fit perfectly. After the mold has been made, you may get temporary veneers, depending upon the original state of the teeth being treated. If you want a perfect smile – movie star quality – consider porcelain veneers. Your smile will be beautiful, and your teeth flawless.
Once your custom porcelain veneers are ready to be placed, a final “color check” takes place. We know how important this process is for you, and we ensure everything meets your wishes with regard to fit, color and shape. Once you have looked at the final result and approved the color, the veneers will be applied to your teeth, one at a time, with a special dental cement — and your new smile is permanent.
Who Can Get Veneers?
Not everyone is a candidate for veneers. There are several reasons why a person may not be able to get veneers, in which case another process could be used to achieve a similar result. Some of the potential dental issues include:
- Reduced enamel on the teeth may make it impossible to correctly attach porcelain veneers.
- Tooth decay, gum disease or other dental problem must be resolved before porcelain veneers can be used.
- If you grind your teeth, veneers are prone to getting chipped or broken. Resolving teeth grinding will be necessary first.
What You Need to Know About Veneers
Your porcelain veneers are permanently affixed with a special adhesive, and will not come off. It is important to avoid chewing or biting hard foods, such as ice, nuts, or chewing on items such as pens, as these could damage the restoration. If the veneer is damaged, it will have to be replaced.
Caring for Veneers
You care for your new veneers like your own natural teeth. Brush twice a day, and floss once a day. There is no specialized care needed, as veneers are permanently adhered to the front of your natural tooth, and function normally.
